Demonstrative Experiment in Mobile Internet System :

Collaboration study group succeeded in the demonstrative experiment in high-speed mobile Internet system.

The system is to realize 11Mbps Internet connection via outdoor wireless base stations with mobile terminals like notebook computers and PDA. It is based on the low-cost wireless equipment, and by adding the authentication and security functions, it can offer safety public Internet services.

Furthermore, with new mobile protocols and high-speed hand-over technology, applications can be continuously used even in transit between base stations.

The experiment was conducted in Fukuoka city with 3 base stations and notebook computers. Then the Internet access to video and musical contents was confirmed in transit between stations. The group will continuously test various applications including Internet phone system.

For the practical use, the subject is development of low-cost and small-sized mobile terminals. When solving it, high-speed mobile Internet service with flat rate charge will be realized.
