• Root Inc. Ships 11Mbps, 2.4GHz wireless products to K-OPTI.com for high-speed Internet service.

Root Inc. (president: Hiroshi Mano) and Kinden Corp. (president: Osami Nakatani) will ship 2.4GHz wireless broadband solution RGW2400 series for K-OPTI.com Corp. (representative director: Tadao Tanabe) wireless high-speed Internet services.

K-OPTI.com launched high-speed wireless Internet service called Òeo Meg airÓ due in operation by the end of October. Kinden has proposed RootÕs RGW2400 series for the service and is awarded the contract.

K-OPTI.com`s Òeo mega airÓ service provide 2.4Ghz band wireless 3Mbps best effort high-speed Internet service, starting in Sakai-shi, Osaka. Root supplies RGW2400 series (wireless base station "RGW2400/APO" and wireless subscriber station "RGW2400/IDO") with cooperation of Kinden.

Root is the one of the leading companies which developed base and subscriber wireless units for Òfirst one mileÓ solution, specifically installed outdoors, using 2.4GHz frequency band. It has already supplied local government and carriers, including power company subsidies, with wireless equipment. The track record is regarded as a major advantage for Root.

Moreover, Kinden had suggested RGW2400 series 2.4GHz band wireless communications apparatus to the first wireless Internet access service in Kansai area, which K-OPTI.com offers. Kinden collaborates with K- OPT.com in the communication business from the very start, and give full cooperation to them, including overall proposal from backbone to access network, as well as construction.

RGW2400 series consist of the 2.4GHz band wireless base stations and the wireless terminals for subscribers. The base station can directly connect to the optical fiber backbone, and is the solution enables 11M/bps high-speed wireless Internet connectivity into homes, offices or apartment building, etc.
Other high-speed Internet access plans, such as ADSL, cable, or optical fibers, become available recent years, but are not claimed to have universal access. One of their first-one-mile problems is the service wire installation into the customerÕs premise. Difficulties often surface if the customer is in office building or apartment house. Wireless access solves these problems very efficiently.

In order to respond to such needs, Root directly connecting the optical fiber and CATV backbone with wireless interfaces, and offers the wireless products that can be installed outdoors. The product line has the following features.

1. Weatherproof base statin RGW2400/AP, communicating with RGW2400/ID subscriber stations. Suitable for Point-to-Multipoint configuration.
2. SMF interface compliant with 100BASE-FX standards at the backbone interface of RGW2400/AP. SW-HUB model is also available to configure multistage loop composition two-core optical fiber.
3. Realize high-speed access to Internet by adopting 2.4GHz, 11Mbps direct spread spectrum for wireless part.
4. Create well-managed and extensible system with NetBSD of build-in type BSD system.
5. The system can migrate to mobile Internet services adopting IEEE 802.11b standards. The service will be provided by MIS, a subsidiary of Root Inc.
6. Thorough design and wide selection of antenna provide the best configuration of outdoor type for various environments.
7. IPv6 (Internet Protocol Version6) compatible, ready for next-generation IP network.
