• Establishing of Mobile Internet Service Business in South Korea

On October XX this year, ROOT Inc. (head office: Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo, president : Hiroshi Mano) established Wireless Broadband Service Co., Ltd (WBS, Soul, Korea, CEO : Jung Suk Hyun) with Mobil Internet Service Inc. (MIS, head office : Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo, president Hiroshi Mano), Any One Wireless Co., Ltd (AOW, Soul, Korea, CEO : Jung Suk Hyun) and Hansol I Ventures Co., Ltd. (Soul, Korea, CEO : Yoon, Sang Don), towards realization of the high-speed Internet access service with mobile using Wireless LAN technology (IEEE802.11b) in South Korea.

On August 27th, four companies agreed on establishment based on the business prospects in South Korean market.

In Korea, high-speed Internet access facilities are in common use especially in urban areas. Wireless solution, using 2.4GHz band, is expected to expand the further Internet market WBS will conduct demonstration in several business districts in Soul, and intends to prepare the business of a commercialization within a year.

In April this year, the joint management of ROOT and Usen Corp. established MIS. MIS is the world's first company to have established its own wireless LAN technologies based on the IEEE 802.11b, with connection speeds up to 11Mbps, including the hand-over capacity to support users on the move and secure user authentication.

ROOT has capital tie-up with AOW last June and already has the distribution to the South Korean market. Starting the business of Mobile Internet Service, ROOT intends to get into South Korean market and expect to establish its own brand in the country.

Specification of the wireless LAN which 802.11 task forces of IEEE standardized in September 1999.
IEEE 802.11b features raw bit rate of 11mbps, while WBS plans to divide the bandwidth among several to ten users within a base coverage area.
