• ROOT, IIJ and Novatec Jointly Develop Micro Multi-Platform Mobile Router

ROOT INC. announced that ROOT INC., Internet Initiative Japan Inc. and Novatec Corporation jointly developed the new Micro Multi-Platform Mobile Router.

This new router comes fully equipped with a wireless LAN (IEEE802.11a/b/g) that enables it to connect with PHS/3G mobile phones and other equipment, and enables seamless mobile communication even with the access network changes created by mobile IP. This new product is the culmination of a joint effort to merge Novatec's micro hardware, and its Intel network processor, with IIJ's NetBSD-based embedded routing technology and ROOT's wireless mobile IP technology. This product will be announced at the Intel Developers Forum Japan 2005 held at the Hotel Nikko in Tokyo on April 7 and 8.

• About the Micro Multi-Platform Multi-Purpose Router
  This router creates seamless mobile communications using a PHS/3G mobile phone network and wireless LAN (IEEE 802.11a/b/g).
  It is very small, has three-way power (battery, DC, or AC), and can connect with any device.
  • Dimensions (width x depth x height) Micro-size 80 x 150 x 30 mm
  • Interface (number of connections): Ether (2), USB2.0 (2), IEEE 802.11a/b/g, and PCMCIA (2)
  • Power: Three-way (battery, DC-12V, AC-100V)
  • Supported Protocols:
    IP filter, IPsec, VLAN, Bridge, IPv4/IPv6, PPP/PPPoE, NAT/NAPT, RIP/RIPng, DHCP, SNMP, NTP, Syslog, MIP(MBA protocol), NEMO(Network Mobility)
  - Product scheduled to go on sale in summer 2005.
